Life can feel overwhelming when you’re struggling with intense emotions, difficult relationships, or persistent unhelpful thoughts. You might find yourself asking: ‘Why do I keep having the same problems?’ or ‘How can I feel more in control of my life?’ I believe that lasting change happens when we understand the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors – and learn practical skills to create the life we want.
In our work together, I’ll help you identify the patterns that aren’t serving you and develop concrete tools to navigate life’s challenges more effectively. Drawing mainly from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we’ll focus on building skills in four key areas: managing intense emotions, improving relationships, staying present in difficult moments, and changing unhelpful thought patterns.
I believe therapy works best when it’s both supportive and practical. You’ll leave each session with specific strategies you can use right away – whether that’s a breathing technique for anxiety, a way to communicate your needs more clearly, or a method for challenging self-critical thoughts. We’ll celebrate your progress while honestly addressing the areas where growth is needed.
My approach is warm, direct, and collaborative. I see you as the expert on your own life, while I provide the roadmap and tools for change. Together, we’ll work toward helping you feel more confident, emotionally balanced, and capable of creating meaningful relationships and experiences. Change is possible, and it starts with taking that first step.

“We can’t change the past, so we can change how people are thinking, feeling, and behaving today.”
- Albert Ellis
I received my Master of Science and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University – Post (LIU Post) and am currently completing my post-doctoral training at Behr Psychology Group. Before joining Behr, I completed my doctoral internship at Pilgrim Psychiatric Center in Brentwood, New York, where I provided CBT and DBT-informed care and conducted comprehensive assessments as well as intake interviews for individuals who had diagnoses related to severe and persistent mental illness, in addition to profound emotional and behavioral difficulties. I have had abundant experiences working with and providing culturally and trauma-informed competent care to individuals from diverse backgrounds in both individual and group settings. I have worked with adolescents and adults with various presentations, including mood, anxiety, and personality disorders, psychosis, learning disabilities, social problems, family dysfunction, and trauma. I have received intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), as well as various Cognitive Behavioral Therapy treatments, including Exposure Therapy, Behavioral Activation, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). I am especially interested in working with individuals who struggle with mood and anxiety disorders.
“ I’ve been working with Jessica for nearly a year and am very grateful for our sessions, especially with the pandemic. She is a great listener and very down to earth. She remembers a lot of small details about my life and has connected many dots for me.”

“One of the most thoughtful and professional therapists that I've gone to. She listens carefully and patiently to what you have in mind without presuming anything about your problems and who you are; something that has really annoyed me in my previous experiences with therapists in general.”

“Dr. Behr is the absolute best. Brilliant and responsive, her knowledge base and ability to point out things you can't see through the things you say and the way you say them is phenomenal. My time with her has been invaluable, especially during the pandemic.”

“Dr. Jess has helped me so much with my anxiety and worry. She helps me see different perspectives on my problems which really helps. She also is always willing to call me and talk to me in between sessions if I need anything or add me to twice a week when I needed it. I really recommend her if your struggling with anything. She will help you.”

“I have been rebirthed by the work I'm currently doing with Dr. Behr. She is gentle, kind, always reassuring with the right words or suggestions. She has been a phone call away during times of my distress, a "cheerleader" for my personal and professional development, and reassuring when I doubt myself. She is quick to remind me "you are doing the work, I’m just helping you find what you already have within yourself". But, without her guidance my journey would be a lot more daunting. I walked into her office broken, sad and jaded, today I am healing, hopeful and most importantly happy!!”
